The Last Rose
An end of season bloom, this Rose of white
stands all alone in chill of autumn air
while blooming softly in the fading light,
and still she is a stunning beauty fair.
Her face turned southward in the morning light
while seeking warmth from autumn’s waning sun,
and shaking chills brought on by season’s night
not knowing turnabout has just begun.
This chill, a signal of what lies ahead
as cold winds from the north begin to blow;
the summer robins to the south have fled
as withers of this Rose begin to show.
This flower fading from what seasons bring
yet still she’s lovely as the Rose of spring.
