The Fantasy of Love

“Though I know he loves me, tonight my heart is sad; his kiss was not so wonderful as all the dreams I had.” - Sara Teasdale You see it in romantic movies, and when you are young, nothing seems so awesome as kissing's bliss or walking hand in hand. You dream of it, wishing it would blossom before too long for you! If only he - your thoughtful, handsome prince – would come along, and reverie become reality. You fall to sleep. In your mind’s a love song, and when you’re not asleep, you dream awake. Your visualization of romance is whimsy over life-long love you’ll make. Youth’s fantasizing has you in a trance. Life shocks you out of hallucination, For truth can’t match your sweet imagination.

Ah yes... reality. Sometimes it is so much better than imagination! But i do wish young people weren't inundated with romantic fantasy so much in movies, books, and tv. Your poem hits on a subject i think we can all relate to which is the essence of good poetry to me. You never disappoint Andrea ! Congratulations! Xo

From romantic youth to twilight years, love matures with age. A great verse in sonnet form. Nicely done.

The secret is to never awaken...some of the best have tried with me to no avail. True Love, deep abiding love, is eternal. Omnipotent. Masterful write!

Andrea, I enjoyed your poem and Sara’s quote. Yes, we dream of that perfect romance. Perhaps we dream of excitement and happily ever afters knowing that what we experience here kn earth is lacking. Imagination is fun. hugs

I got to experience the "feelings" of this a few beautiful times in my life when I was a teen. but I know if I'd ended up with those guys, the excitement would have faded.
