She’d made him out to be larger than life A hero of the times with brawn and might The one who could with word put end to strife And fight the dragons, bringing dark to light He was to her an angel strong and brave Who claimed that truth was plain for her to see She thought he had the power from pain to save But though she tried her doubts she could not free And then one day he fell in deep disgrace The one who claimed to be steadfast and true This noble knight on steed with angel face Had changed from brightest light to different hue Deep sadness filled her heart for his demise No more was he a hero in her eyes Jade

I now know after so many years of life that heroes are disappointing . . . and the greatest disappointment is in myself. Your words captures this reality -- much love and light LO.

Thank you for the visit, David. The word hero has so much strength and valor attached to it. It connotes a larger than life person who is beyond reproach. "You're my HERO" is such a lovely catch phrase. I guess a person can be a hero and act heroically without have to be perfect. I guess that where I make the mistake. Don't be disappointed in yourself, David. I've enjoyed my collab with you. You write beautifully and you are such a dear friend. You haven't made promises you can't keep, so you're good in my books, dear! :) LO

Good morning dear Eileen, Second poem you have written about fallen heroes. People are people some good some bad and none perfect. to veiw someone as a knight in shining armour without also recognising their ultimate fallibillity is to set yourself up for a fall. Admire and praise the good that people do, and admonish the wrong. love Shane xxx PS a 7 from this small fish.

Ah! but that is what we call genius, the ability to see what is beyond reality and then make it real. These are the knights in shining armour but they are also fallible human beings. So perhaps one should say knights in slightly tarnished armour although it does not really have the same ring. My wonderful friend the world is a strange place full of love and full of hate, full of pain and full of joy. I think this yin and yang needs those who can rise above and create a new reality for all to partake of. stay safe my enchantress your words sing! love Shane xxx

There are no knights in shining armor, Shane. That's why there is poetry....that's why there are romance novels....that's why people watch sappy romantic love stories. We search for that which is above and beyond reality. I've always been an idealist. My temperament is Melancholy/Sanguine. I'm a perfectionist and I take imperfections harder than most. I'm very hard on myself as well. However, having said that....becoming bitter just makes one not able to enjoy the heights. Life is a circle of highs and lows. Maximize the highs...endure the lows. Thanks for the visit, my dear. You aren't a small fish at all! Hugs

I was put on a pedestal once, then she locked it with a key, and walked away!!!! Loved this poem!
