The Cost of Growing Tall - POTD

 i done stacked up cinder blocks to build a wall,
        and hid my primary colors in the dark.
        i grew so tall I forgot how it felt to fall;
         instead, I permit my inner child to cry.

 the ticking clock gnaws away precious minutes,
meanwhile I trace the scars upon a wooden floor,
    I've run out of interesting, adult things to say;
           instead, I permit my inner child to cry.

 wax crayons smudge against my calloused skin,
     mixing with the ink of bills and unread mail.
 i've grown tired of the mask and the hollow grin,
          instead, I permit my inner child to cry.

   i press my palms against the bathroom glass,
remembering the kid with the grass-stained knees.
     I'll stay right here and just let the world pass.
            instead, I permit my inner child to cry.

Edward, your skillfully-composed, thoughtful, kyrielle is like the theme song for us adults who allow our inner child to cry when adult life becomes so demanding. CONGRATS on your well-deserved win! Janice

Growing so tall, that you forget how to fall. It happens, because minutes take you to an older version of yourself. Reflection is needed sometimes, a soft reminder that it's okay to cry. Such a tender write, Edward. Congratulations my dear friend, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Edward, congratulations on your wonderful POTD! Each line, each image conveys your journey to adulthood anchored by your experiences in childhood linked by each memory of "grass stained knees" and "crayon smudges." Precious memories indeed. So happy for you! Sending you blessings of spring joy, my friend!

One of the things I did not expect as I got older was just how much emotion would be attached to the simple memories. This poem captures and conveys that well. Congratulations on POTD.

Congratulations on POTD, Edward! A touching reflection acknowledging & nurturing unresolved emotional wounds, & unmet needs of early life, seems never-ending. With techniques, we transform & not let it become oversized either. Great write. May blessings

take the kid for a walk...find a puddle...splash through it...make a mud pie...spread your arms ... close your eyes...and fly....

There's no fault to be found in showing our emotions... male or female. I'd say it takes more courage for a man not to be afraid to cry than it is for a woman. Sometimes those tears are the best way to break down a wall that we've built around us. I wrote a Yalto at your suggestion and left an email for you about it. I hope it met your requirements.
