The Butcher Came

The butcher came for the sheep the cow did not moo, she wasn't a sheep The butcher came for the goats the cow did not moo, she wasn't a goat The butcher came for the pigs The cow did not moo, she wasn't a pig Then the butcher came for the cow her bull and her calves, The rest of the farm was eerily silent Remembering the poem of Martin Niemöller "First they came …" a post-war 1946 poem written in prose by Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller, who was a German (1892–1984). In it he speaks of cowardice which German intellectuals as well as some of the clergy felt in the hellish nightmare of the Jewish people. In this poem, by his own admission, a coward, looking away during Hitler's rise to power. In my own rendition of a farm, compared to his, is rather ridiculous. I just want to acknowledge his poem at this time in history. Please pray that God give our leaders insight, and clarity on what must be accomplished. Please pray for the people of Ukraine, and, please look the poem up.

So sad, and so true Timothy, tragic and horrifying. When will they ever learn? The old folk song is playing in my mind right now. So tragically evil and heart breaking.

Yes, we don't know what the future holds but we know who holds the future. Sad what is happening to Ukraine and its people. I don't know what can be done to stop Russia, but something can be done. That wonderful uplifting phrase is litterally a message that I have framed and hanging up above my piano Sara, so very true and encouraging <3 It is true, God is still on His throne, and one day, True Peace will reign on the earth. BJ: I googled Martin Niemoller. He was a Nazi supporter. I read what had happened to him. It will also happen to these socialists of today. When they start taking away our freedom, then it will finally get around to them. Your poem was excellent and certainly reflects today. Well written (FAV). Blessings ~ Debra

Yes, ironic that he had to suffer and learn first hand what he once supported, that's the way of it. A terrible lesson to be learned, but at least it was learned from him eventually, and he left this warning to the world through his poem. God bless you Debra, I hope your day is blessed <3 ~ BJ

wow so YOUR poem is a different one ? I thought IT was amazing . Best I read tonight. I see all this happening over again, just like it did in Hitler's time, but things are happening in a way that people are not even seeing it. Love this.

Never ending, but there will come a day, may that day come soon that true Peace comes. These are such sad times again, and horrible, but maybe we were chosen to be born for such a time as these? What will we do, may God direct our hearts. Above all things, we need to pray <3
