Sounding like a herd of buffalo rampaging through a valley.  
In its...

deep... DARK, 

trembling tenor voice...
 
It spoke- 

Thunder!

Dear Charles, hearing the sound of thunder, while rain dances with such force; is somewhat poetic. I agree, a loud *boom* out of no where, will make you jump out of your skin.
