Tears On the Wind
Tears on the Wind
Meek and mild was our early childhood life
free from troubles , almost free from strife,
that Sunday morn, father blowing the old truck's horn
all racing quickly to avoid Dad's scathing scorn
Told , Jake you ride with two sisters in the back
and hold on when we cross the old railroad tracks,
life flows in many mysterious and unfathomable ways
when tragedy comes it hurts and oft pain just stays
Services went as slow as a sick day stuck in bed
returning on tires slick and devoid of any tread,
a blowout sent truck and family into a large tree
only person hurt was Dad and spared was we three
A broken back and truck bumper crumpled end to end
not knowing the blessing it was to soon send,
trip to the Doc and soon Dad would be fit and fine
yet x-ray showed cancer on father's lower spine
A wreck that previously brought "tears on the wind"
saved Dad's life while saving us our best friend
Early detection was the blessed and gifted key
often tears are prayers sent, answered for free
