Stairway At 48 Rue De Lille, Paris Edward Hopper

Inspired by the 1906 painting by Edward Hopper of an ornate stairway in Paris Mouth agape, stood still in place Embroiled in the elegance of this ornate space Felt through all senses, not just sight Standing breathless from ascending flight after flight Each twist of the bannister, felt smooth in hand Curvature caressed in order to understand Solidity and wisdom beneath the feet Yielding a soulful, rhythmic beat Journey up is just part of the plan Sensation explosion for the artisan Acceptance here ignites the muse New light and shade to take, infuse An artistic soul beguiled by those That should I meet, self must compose The door atop contains days end A meeting to help pursuits transcend A held breath, to hold the view To finally reach all one could pursue Through the closed door, on the other side All artistic knowledge, will be amplified So pause, absorb all there is to feel Knowing, relishing, that this is real

A complex painting you have chosen and have done full justice to it. Now I understand what potent talent you hold . If you are standing at the foot of the stairway, you can easily reach the top ascending stairs after stairs, in no time. Greatly enjoyed. Kudos!

You have a real knack for this type of poetry, DD. I feel the experience you're describing here so well. Keep these coming - very enjoyable and poetically stimulating. Best, john

Thanks John, always nice to hear from you. They've tended to be for Brian's contests but been in the N/A category several times which is disheartening (although a while ago they did place frequently). It's lovely to hear it's well received, thank you

A great description. Hmm, is there a special contest on this form right now? I just saw another one too.

Thank you, not that I'm aware of. I started writing them because Brian Strand has them in his list of likes for his contests though

Such an amazing description I feel I don't need to see the painting. In fact your poem is more vivid than the painting and more interesting. You set yourself a challenge by choosing this painting DD. Well done. 1st class.
