“At the end of the day, I just want to sit with someone I love and chat about what matters and even what doesn’t.” - Crystal Woods

A Sam Scott poem:
-----

Listen to poem:
There are moments in life When an emptiness crowds into the space We inhabit How can emptiness Be a tangible thing? Yet, here it comes With it's grey shadowy self A presence An absence Pondering the void In the chair where I sit Surrounded by beauty Internal wrestle With the ugly hunger Sated only by the presence of another

Emptyness is when we notice the space. Its our awareness of it that gives it presence, form, and maybe even a personality. Is it lonly, haunted, or is it space away to feel secure. Is it devoid of emotion to rest your nerves. To be empty can mean many things. At least in my experience. I like this poem. It reminds me of some of mine.

You captured an intangible here. Well done. We are encouraging loneliness here in NZ by building far too many 1 bedroom flats. of course one can be lonely in a crowd. The best team building exercise I came across related to trying to break into a group. Having a hobby or belonging to a group generally makes one less lonely. Best regards David in NZ

It is a strange phenomena in our world, where we can connect with everybody yet loneliness is rife. Community is the answer, humans are wired that way. Thanks David :)

Loneliness is not something a human can live with for very long. Tommy is right we need love to thrive.

You can be lonely in a crowd and that is the saddest of all. Thanks for stopping by Eve :)

That last line says it all. We don't exist well in a vacuum. We need people. We need love to thrive. Welcome to PS

Your poem reminds me of an old saying, Sam ... "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." We can sit amongst beauty and not experience the beauty of the moment we're in. We have to allow ourselves to experience a moment, a presence ... for it to be real. Nice first poem here at Poetry Soup, Sam. I'll be following your poet and hope to get to know you. Bill

Hey Bill! Really nice comments..and ofcourse you are so right. When beauty sits with us in the 'ordinary' we must focus or miss it. Thanks again for your encouragement and wisdom :)

Thank you SV. I am introvert-ish but get much more from one to one conversation than in a large group. I find (as the poem implies) we can be surrounded by beauty yet there is sometimes an empty space inside. Thanks for reading :)
