Venturing outside, I notice that the freshly fallen snow rests upon the park bench as if it were a feather cushion, soft and warm. It covers the rich, deep wood in perfect white. I brush the snow off the bench and sit down letting the tranquil scenery envelope me. In that serenity, I realize that the snow is a gift-wrap only spring will open, revealing the engrained beauty that lives safely below, protected these long winter months.
A small brown rabbit skitters in front of me and suddenly stops, surprised that I’ve invaded his wintry territory.
frosty breath escapes
from rabbit’s nostrils, white world
silent winter’s peace
