Signs of Love
When he knocked a tooth
out of her mouth
she ran.
Dawn found her wandering home,
then listening to his tearful excuses -
she with all that dried blood
on her lips.
The girl stood there,
knees trembling
rubbing his bent head
to comfort him.
The purple marks upon her bare arms,
revealing
yet more signs of his love.
