She Shed Her Wings

The stars hold her captive in their embrace,
drifting through the fabric of time and space.
For swaddled in an ebony cocoon,
she can't shed her wings till the next full moon.
Her beauty emphasizes her sad state,
a creature of feelings; she chose her fate.
And defiant to the bitter-sweet end,
she remained rigid, refusing to bend.
She'd fallen in love with a mortal man,
and so, her descent from heaven began.
For Angels have to be above such things;
or give up their precious heavenly wings.
She should not have let this affair begin,
to return his love was a grievous sin.
But, her lonely heart would not be denied;
her love became impossible to hide.
Trading Angel wings for mortality;
her passion overrode reality.
And she shed her wings for a human heart;
despite the fact, it's tearing her apart.
