Self Portrait

My earliest memories are of you. You brought me to life. Your smile, the first thing I remember seeing. Such a look of satisfaction, It was as if you were saying, a job well done. Infinite pride in what you’d created! And through the years, I’ve been witness to so much love and so many good times, I’ve been blessed. Not that I haven’t seen my share of drama too! Like the time I fell, broken glass everywhere, and you were so upset. Yes, hanging around you has been quite interesting. Only once did I ever feel insecure, as if there were no place for me. It was when we moved to the city, remember? I know now that I’ll always be a part of you. And I think perhaps, I know you best of all. I’ve seen the lowest of lows and shared your most private thoughts and I just beamed at your successes. They say that you reflect those you love In my case, I know it’s true.

I enjoyed this poem. I love the raw emotion that chooses to withhold fake embellishment and stick to balancing the nuances. Well done, Mike.
