Self Portrait
As I stare unblinking at this, self
placing light on to the face
I choose how it hits
light and shadow
the chaotic ions, still
as I gather them up
to make a record of how
in a moment
I sat with all of me
and I was held
transfixed
leaving it for others
to discern anything at all
behind eyes that belong, somehow
in a time and place, to a person
this isn't true or false
there is/could be transcendence
maybe this weakened state
where I strip layers
from here to there
become pigment and placement
composition
always parchment weight
able to blow away with the breeze
to be found again
somewhere else
still staring out
questioning ephemeralism.
