One's self praise is no recommendation
My mother said without hesitation
If she had heard me ringing my own bell
It was a lesson that I soon learned well.
Whatever you do, someone does better
It's a fact, my mom was my abetter
Her words will stay with me all of my days
Though I'm a poet, I don't expect praise.
Mom also said, keep some things to yourself
Words one has heard that demean someone else
Hear all, see all, but don't dare spill the beans
Never pour water over someone's dreams
I honestly try hard to be discreet
Secrets shared, to myself I'll always keep
Never repeating unkind words I've heard
About anyone, knowing how it hurts.
If someone is in need of help, I'm there
Letting them know that I truly do care
Although I am growing older myself
As long as I can, I'll offer my help.
As for my self esteem, I'm revealing
The truth of how I truly am feeling
I could have done better, it is a fact
But pray I'll be loved until my last act.
