Seijaku
along many roads of blessedness I’ve traveled
but also I have followed strands of pebbles
on beaches of despair.
I have crept down frightful alleys
with my heart beating fear’s rhythm,
and I have sometimes wandered
through corridors of woe.
in those spans of my lifetime
not so very blessed
I have found relief in the comfort
of my home, for home is where
I can lay down my burdens.
in the laughter of my children
I have escaped the dreariness
of the mundane
I have fled the cacophony
of everyday clamor
upon finding myself
on the threshold of my dear home
in the sight of
my loved ones’ sweet eyes,
I can find my tranquility, for
life’s monsters are curtailed -
at least for a whisper of time
as gentle as butterfly wings -
when I let my mind wander
to peaceful memories
and calm myself inside
the beautiful serenity
of a home free from strife
