Seeing Beyond the Seen

I had a meeting with a guy yesterday who I have talked with for almost a year. This was our first time meeting in person. If I had met him on the street I may have been inclined to walk to the other side. He is about six foot two a shaved head and tattoos. He looks like he should be riding a motorcycle instead of driving a mini van. Like many things in life people aren't always what they appear. He seems to value unconventiality, perhaps it allows him to straddle two worlds. There are people he can reach that would probably not talk to me. He is a man of God struggling to determine where God is leading him, making choices. Trying to hear the quiet voice of God. I say a silent prayer for him. God please lead this man along your path, help him to know the difference between his desires and your own. Help him to realize you have equipped him for his new reality. Be a lamp unto his feet. It seems that I too was not what he expected. Not bohemian enough, I'm conservative in appearance, I don't wear Birkenstock sandals. I look more suited to a business meeting than sitting talking about my feelings. I too value unconventiality, I do not wish to be restrained, I am not fully what I appear. I am a man of God struggling to determine where God is leading me, straining to hear his quiet voice. Sometimes it is hard for me to listen when my own voice is so loud. Maybe someone will say a silent prayer for me. I also need a lamp to guide my feet.

This is so what I like to read, Rick. Complete sincerity oozing from your words. No locked doors or hidden pathways... all was open for everyone to see. There's a girl at work who used to be the quietest, neutralest, most monotone person I ever met. Now that I've known her for a year and a half, I realize she is one of the funniest, sarcastic and downright thoughtful people I know. Weird how the tables have changed, eh? Love your humility in this...

Quite often the burdens we carry need to be laid at the base of the cross. He says his burdens are light so it's good to examine where our challenges are coming from. Hard to do sometimes when we are in the middle of our problems.

Ah, the power of sight and what our heart allows us to see within another, within ourselves. Very nicely done!

Simply beautiful writing, Richard. We're often mistaken when judging books by their covers. Would you believe that, contrary to what my poetry may suggest, I lead a very, very conservative life? I've been branded "wildcat", "easy meat" and other derogatory names by fellow Soupers. I simply smile and move on. Keep your eyes on the cross, my friend. I'll spare you a warm thought. :-)

I just see you as a creative and extrodinarily talented woman. You will see no derogatory words from this pen. Have a wonderful day!

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) Claim the promise, Richard. If we truly seek, we will find. He has promised. He is always willing...no, EAGER to reveal Himself to us. I'd be a prayer warrior for you, but...I haven't been praying much lately. :( He knows why...and He still loves and cares. Bless you as you minister to others.

Beautiful, honest and humble write... so true. I will say that silent prayer for you... for God's lamp to fuide your feet.. you could do the same for me. "Perhaps it allows him to straddle two worlds"-- a brilliant line.. I relate, as I am conventional, a mother of two adult children who has just had two tattoos done on the inside of each wrist... a cross on one, and the word "Faith" on the other-- mixing the two sides of 'normal' :)
