Screen of Nothing

With the tap of a button on my keyboard I can erase hours of intricate wordsmithing Poof! Vanish a lousy poem when I am bored, And start afresh with a screen of nothing. Which presents a whole new quandary With what shall I fill this tantalizing space, Staring me in the face, a complicated mystery I’ll write something good, not commonplace Hopefully, a poem worthy of the screen And I shall post it, hoping for a good review Who knows? Readers can be nice or mean I know I’ll get the best comment from you.

"Readers can be nice or mean" - I do not like the idea that they can be mean. Why can't they just NOT comment?

Unfortunately, some people enjoy being mean. I don't understand that, but I know it is true. If I can't find something good to say in a comment, I just don't comment. You are right, Caren.

I, too, delete as much as I post, Milt. Your poem presents a dilema and solution. It is well written and rhymed. Many will identify with the content. Your closing line will have some thinking you're writing to them. :-) Write On! my friend. Enjoying catching up some on your poetry today. Bill

I couldn't think of any other way to end the poem, Bill. So, I suppose it was written for everyone!

Awesome. Superlative rhyme and meter. Incredible extended metaphor. Profound allusions. Gripping suspense. Nail-biting Anxiety. Jaw-dropping beauty. Side-splitting humor. Oops, there I went and critiqued another one of my brilliant poems... Now, let's see: What am I supposed to be writing about in this box?! lol. :) gw

You are simply too much, gw. Here I was thinking you were really blown away by my poem. Then, I realized you were just blown away....

This deserves a good review, for sure, Milton! I’m amazed that you can write directly on the screen - I’m still a paper and pencil person - screen comes after it’s all done…

You are not alone. It took me a number of years to learn to write on the screen. I had a lot of trouble doing it because it seemed to mechanical, at first. Now, it's second nature, but it took a while to adapt.
