Right Here In My Heart
I keep them all in a secret place,
right here in my heart . . .
All those faces in frames on my bookcase,
the beloved- I wish so much to embrace;
and think about every single day . . .
my sister,
grandpa,
father and mother.
my husband and my baby who died-
And in a sacred place
I keep my sweet grandma
who is the reason I write . . .
but the worst, the worst-
that shatters my heart,
is the boy who came home in a box
from a stupid, senseless war,
my brother.
