Remembering

Looses its sting
with the passage of time
be it 9-11 or Columbine.
The horror, the pain
only long remains
for the families of the dead.
For the rest of us
it becomes another date,
a JFK or D-Day to remember where we stood.
Seldom do we ask
where were you when Wallace was shot.
Its an anniversary we may have forgot.
Bobby was shot in front of our eyes,
perhaps we only remember who dies.
Martin's funeral lasted all day
as the mules slowly moved into history.
Who knows the future for our eyes ...
perhaps the revolution will be televised.

Great writing. And of course things fade into memories except for those most affected else we would all lose our minds. Thanks for your comments. I entered in it in dusty box of memories contest, Joyce

Hi Sue, I watched a documentary of 9-11 last night. Actual video's taken by people who witnessed it first hand. It brought it all back - the reality of the evil in this world. Your last line confirms the power of this technology. Sensational writing! Lainie, And thank you for your kind comments.

There is much truth in this heart felt piece, Sue. I can't help but think of the phrase' There but for the grace of God, go I" reading this and pray that those touched by these terrible tragidies found comfort and strength through faith. Thank you for your kind words and I must tell you I love your phrase "an attiude of gratitude". :) Love, Robin

This is thought provoking, and timely.....yes...we move on and on...sometimes we remember and sometimes we should remember more than we do. Well said.

Interesting piece for the reader to ponder about. Though we do move on, 9-11 changed that safety we had taken for granted living across the ocean from much of the chaos. If you entered the contest with this poem, good luck. Keep on writing! Thank you for your kind comment. Karen
