Regrets
"I cannot stay for long", said I,
"The world is new to me.
And I must find what suits my eye-
And be what I can be."
"Of course you will, my love," she said,
"But do it here with me.
There is no need to roam instead
To be what you can be."
But I was young and left her there
And went upon my way
I studied things of crook and fair
And often had my say
And I became of some import
But not all I could be
As I recalled my love's retort
To do it here with me
And I regret now that I'm old
I understood it not
I needed her as she foeretold
As all else came to naught
