Red poppies, Is it safe to walk across your chattel? Shadows pace your blood-red opium lusciousness. You're charismatic pulsating red hue, Intoxicating under the rising dawn And quiet golden yellow honey. Are they asleep? Or, Are they heaving the dead From the shadow of battle? Shadows hunt your sweetness, Drifting beyond rest in empty silence. You don't let them go; You drag them off In your undertow Relieving their pain, Dulling their senses. Red poppies, Is it safe to walk across your chattel? 4/14/2020

A reminder of the glorious dead, always makes me think of the flanders field poem. Tom

Beautifully phrased though in a sad way. I know they're stunning flowers yet devastating too. Also, it reminded me of another poppy poem which I love, that is :- "In Flanders Fields" is a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. True it has nothing to do with each other. I liked your version very much.
