Rat-a-tat-tat, hear the guns on the street, children are shooting children in their school. And yet, gun control bills end in defeat, corporate America is no fool. Money matters more than lives; it's a fact politicians fear the gun lobby's might. And do nothing, when school kids are attacked, except acknowledge that it isn't right. No show of tears can quell a mother's pain, nor condolences offered in thoughts and prayers. For words, can't bring her child to life again, and the message she hears; is no one cares. All those that say guns don't kill; people do, invariably know that isn't true. (Sonnet) 5/09/2021 GUNS Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Anthony Biaanco

This is an impressive write Emile, it is so sickening to keep hearing about mass killings especially in schools. I wrote one a while back called children's lives don't matter in a similar vein.

Yes. Another sad day and another shooting. I wonder what makes a young person want to inflict such harm. Is it society's failure? Many things had to happen before she went for a gun. I always think this will be the last one...

Thanks ilene, people see what they are taught to see, not the simple logic before their eyes... your comments are always appreciated my friend, Emile.

Such a worthy entry for the contest, Emile, but more so getting the message out there with emphasis on the school-age children. Thank you for writing this poem!
