The cerulean sky suddenly turned grey. Cumulonimbus clouds covered the sky. The gentle wind turned into a noisy roar. In the sweeping wind, the trees arched and bent. At every gust, the dead leaves began to fall. The blazing sun got veiled by dark clouds. The day turned dusky as if the sun was about to set. Lightning, like clashing spears cut through the sky. Thunder was heard roaring in the distance. Suddenly raindrops began falling in tandem. It was such an exhilarating feel to watch water drops, Hitting hard on rooftops and breaking into tiny droplets. Its pitter patter, to me, was like a melodious refrain. Curiously, I watched raindrops dotting the window panes, And the water globules glistening in dim light. Petrichor rose from earth's surface, wafted by the wind. * * * * * From then, it rains and it pours down nonstop. In a week, our land has become a river bed Now how we wish to see the clouds dissipate And the rains stop and the sun takes over!

Dear Valsa, I got really absorbed into this beautiful poem as the storm played out. Love the imagery that sets up the scene so well - the use of onomatopoeia used to full effect. ‘ Lightning, like crashing spears cut through the sky’ - what a terrific image. The adverse weather being admired and enjoyed and then the sudden turn of feelings as the rain goes on and on and what was once appreciated is now turned to dismay as the yearning for the sun takes precedence.A great, atmospheric read.

"Curiously, I watched raindrops dotting the window panes, And the water globules glistening in dim light. Petrichor rose from earth's surface, wafted by the wind." -- Love it! Very refreshing read. Yes, rain can also be devastating, especially when accompanied by great wind. Blessings my friend.

Ah this is exactly how so many especially here too feel when it rains too much and when the island turns into a riverbed, we all which rain clouds would disappear and sun would rise again! Im not a rain person but yes, i love reading rain poem as they are dreamy and so magical. And your poem here is so descriptive sweet valsa, you do it effortlessly making it all look so easy to do, with your seamless lines painting imagery in such a picturesque manner. Love the colors and flow of diction! FAVE. BOL

Hey Valsa, your poem effectively conveys the sensory experience of the storm, from the sound of raindrops hitting rooftops to the smell of petrichor rising from the earth. The "pitter patter" of the rain is beautifully likened to a "melodious refrain," showing the poet's appreciation for nature's symphony even amidst the chaos. Best of luck in the contest..

We had atmospheric river earlier this year. When it rains, it pours. Nicely penned.

Too much of a good thing is not a good thing, as you point out. Our climate is out of whack and getting worse Valsa. Floods for some, drought for others. Waiting on divine intervention to restore balance. Awesome poem
