Rain
the witch doctor...dressed in all his splendour
waiting for the right moment.
slowly moving his feet he starts the dance,
dancing for the rain gods....other elders of the tribe
use their staffs to bang on the ground .
so many months since it rained
the earth was parched and cracked
livestock's dying of thirst
children crying with hunger.
without water...... nothing grows
no grass for the herds
no grain for the simple flat bread
the swollen tummied children wait
suddenly a droplet falls to the ground
all look up in anticipation hands outstretched
waiting to grasp any wetness
fine misty rain landed on their bodies
cooling their boiling skin
the sky darkened
rain came down in torrents
signs of the return of life can be seen
Petricho no one can describe fills the air
the parched earth reveales it's hidden jewels
rain can kill, rain can bring forth life.
without rain, life would cease.
