Put Down Your Phone

No matter when they gather
    I'm still so all alone.
Because no matter what the time of day
    they're always on their phones.
Early morning dawn to dusk
    they talk and text away.
Afraid some trivial bit of news
    will escape their friends display.

My only respite is dinner time
when phones are out of bounds.
Where they eat like imprisoned animals
    trapped inside a pound.
When finally done at supper...they sit
    and give me puppy eyes.
In hopes I will give the word
and free them before they die.

I've reached the end of my tether
and must get them to agree.
So I call an emergency meeting
in hopes to save our family.
We talk the night away
and come up with a daunting plan.
To spend more time together
where all our phones are banned.

Maybe it might be real
    maybe it might come true.
A family filled with caring
taking time for me and you.
So my Dears, forget about your Twitter
    and put away your phone.
We'll start bonding on the morrow
cause I'm watching 'Game of Thrones.'

                    The End

*For those who might be interested. I will be posting my cartoon 'Bob's your Uncle' on my homepage. A new one will appear every second day.

I completely agree, people are too dependant on their electronics and are losing the ability to have real conversations (of course, I'm doing this on MY phone, so what does that say?)

Love the twist at the end...Once it was the TV...before that the radio and the newspaper...before that...?? Excellent write illustrating hypocrisy across the generations. :) gw

Fine write David with great counsel and wise discernment for this age to wake up to. It really annoys me having to listen to other people's conversation travelling on the bus. Well penned.

Panagiota..,100% in your corner, I don't buy the bill of goods, " well that's the way it is!" To go to an extreme, as I am bent to do And tick people off))) These people who think its OK to ditch family for phones. If the Nazis were to arise , they would fold before them too, Avid called phone hater, Panagiota

Better catch them when they're young. Adults have been programmed. Your friends drop by, say "Oh, how glad we are to see you," then drop in a chair, say "I've got to get this," and visiting is over.
