Pray For the Dead

Hysteria was absent for awhile As hurricane Irma spiraled ashore The hollow eye passed us mile after mile 'Til the kaleidoscope began once more Thoughts of the apocalypse came to mind - All that we saw or could see was in flight Our eyes closed - afraid of what we may find In that chaotic scene of dark and light A perpetual cry soon swept the room As the cold floodwaters began to rise It was clear that this was to be our doom And the storm's cacophony drowned our cries When the sun shines, say a prayer for the dead As my last thoughts are better left unsaid 9/12/2017 For contest Eight Word Challenge for John Hamilton

Nice. Good topic for a sonnet. This is a great example of how art imitates life. Thanks for sharing..............peace!
