Poetry Lessons

The first time I received a 1
a smile was pasted on my face,
the sun arose in my dim heart
and a sleeping poet woke up.

The sponsor became my Favourite.

The first time I received a N/A
I figured there was a mistake.
The poem was just too good, you know?
In disbelief I lost my sun.

The sponsor became an idiot.

The first time I received a HM
a little light went off again.
Maybe, maybe I can do this
at least I made the winners list.

The sponsor made me try harder.

First time I was top of the list
the sun was back, I was honoured
and I learned something valuable.
Read the rules! Think before you write.

All the sponsors, l now respect.

Your lines are so alive and real. Munching them in my mind is the blessing I am receiving this moment. This is such an excellent share and I really do not know what more to say. A 7 definitely

I think I have to fav this one Brenda. You express those feelings I think we all have had. To me an HM is just that, honorable, and I am happy to get it. The N/A's not so much....lol. but if I keep getting N/A's from the same sponsor then I realize that that person and I are not in tune and I go on to other contests. Congrats on a great number one poem! #7

Great writing relating the camaraderie among writers here. This is so real, it flows and I can relate to it. Super poem, Brenda.

Good one about the topic..Reads like a winner to me. Contest are all up to the sponsor and totally subjective..Thanks for stopping by..Sara

I agree at first it was confusing but it is a lot clearer now. It is purely subjective and not reflective of ones work or talent. I have many a time thought other poems should of been placed higher than mine. It is what it is. I too do not envy those who run contests. I won't. I am happy to sit on the sidelines.

I don't join many contests....I need to really be inspired with the theme. Also, I've learned some judges just don't go for my kind of writing, so I stopped trying for those judges. We all get happy when we win...That's a fact of life. You really did well on this write...and you ended it graciously.... Good spirit. Hugs

nice write Brenda, I do tend to write to the fringes of the rules at times. Sometimes I know they aren't going to win but hey the muse rules, lol. Good luck in the contest

The problem is not everyone can be at the top. Everyone has different tastes. I feel it should always be done blindly though. Oh its just so scary.

Darren Watson posted a contest on our jadazzle united page - we started to judge it then he got ill - I wont continue it without him the contest was his idea so for now it remains unjudged. I have an idea for a contest but the responsibility of the judging is not something I could cope with at the moment:-( hugs Jan xx

Yes it is very confusing at times. I'm not sure if I will ever sponsor a contest. It is a big responsibility.

To write is a good thing, sometimes even a great thing -- but to let another judge it -- flat out scary!! Well done my dear friend.

Thank you David. We all have different tastes, even the judges and I'm glad, that way everyone has a chance to win.
