Poems written as the day unfolds that go nowhere
The radio:
"Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all you lovin'"
By The Four Tops
(poem written after hearing the song in the car and singing along)
sound and air are filtered through your "I love yous"
the world purified and easy to breathe in
I feel like a marionette, limbs loose
and you're a trust fall away
if my strings are cut
hopeless takes on new meaning
captured in a yearned for embrace
held as if time had not yet ticked
afternoon could swirl into morning
effortless and unafraid
I'm the wave and the undercurrent
longing to crash and pull you to me
*******
(poem written whilst collecting a parcel)
I slip through the cracks
self aware enough to be a sliver
unacknowledged denial threatening to lodge me
somewhere on the way down
*******
(poem written after seeing a robin two days in a row)
I saw a robin yesterday, though it's Spring
then again today
I wondered, what if robins are perhaps actually the grim reaper
though on a part time basis
they pass on messages, as we know
provide comfort to the lingerers left by the dearly departed
it's not so strange an idea
with their particularly thoughtful approach
that they ponder whether your number is up
whatever happened here
I have, it seems, another day
maybe someone put a good word in for me
