Man of melancholy - memories ashen and shadow gray, heart harrowed, solicits solace from her psychic energy. An offering, his woebegone weeping wildflower bouquet, teardrops titian, sorrow scintillant, reflects rueful reverie. Heart harrowed solicits solace from her psychic energy, free falling through forlorn filigree, he mourns at her gravestone. Teardrops, titian sorrow scintillant reflects rueful reverie of his Earth angel, soul-lifted too soon, spiritually sown. Free falling, through forlorn filigree he mourns. At her gravestone fragrance haunting, flowers flaring heartsick hallucinations of his Earth angel soul-lifted too soon; spiritually sown blue scented efflorescence of suffering lamentations! Fragrance... haunting flowers flaring heartsick hallucinations of inamorata, flame extinguished expectant with their child. Blue scented efflorescence of suffering lamentations bedevil his mind. Happiness, hope exiled, ego beguiled. Of inamorata flame extinguished expectant with their child, an offering; his woebegone weeping. Wildflower bouquet bedevils his mind, happiness, hope. Exiled ego beguiled, man of melancholy memories - ashen and shadow gray. Congratulations on a superbly accomplished Pantoum, and a most deserved first place in the contest, Susan. The poem is beautiful, with smooth flowing rhyme, rich alliteration and metaphoric use. Of note...how a few deft touches to punctuation (as in the final stanza) can deliver a desired/effective result. Warm regards // paul

Paul, I adore your appreciation of my poem. This poem is very special to me because in this write I really start to express my 'poetic' emotions of melancholy, sadness and grief. I was really ready to 'let go'.. and I've been 'letting go' ever since :) ..my 'Wild Mango Fandango' phase soon followed.. lol! Your thoughts and ideas are cherished my friend. Warmest wishes ~Susan

Wow! Exquisitely composed!! Pantoums are a tricky beast, but you've pulled it off with aplomb. The emotion practically weeps from your words and it's packed with powerful alliteration! Congratulations on your First Place win! Regards, John.

John, I read your lovely words of praise with so much appreciation. Thank you for your warm visit and generously wonderful comment. I'm so happy you enjoyed my poem, and I love that you used the word 'aplomb'.., isn't it just a really great word? I think it should be used so much more! Many thanks :) ~Susan

Congrats, Susan. I am noticing this was another really great win for you with a picture. Too bad the new pantoum contest is asking for new poems. It could have been an excellent entry for that one, but I know you are going to come up with another really good pantoum.

Thank you Andrea for your lovely words of praise and the congrats. I so appreciate your wonderful visits and your comments. I don't know yet if I will have time to write for another contest for now, since this is a very busy time for me presently. That's why I've only been posting about 1 poem per week and this week so far I haven't posted any but I'm hoping I might have one ready for tomorrow. And I've fallen way behind in my commenting on other poetry as well :( I'm in the 50's in the Poet's Community..sad. Thanks again and we'll see!

Hi Roy, thank you for your very lovely comment. Yes, pantoums can be challenging because the meaning of the repeating lines should subtly change as they are repeated in the poem. I've gotten a lot of practice... if you check my poem list you'll see I've practiced quite a few before I started to get the hang of it lol! I so appreciate your kind words and the congrats as well my friend :) Susan

A pantoum is hard to master, yet you did that, threw in some alliteration, and deliciously delectable word pairing, an exceptional write, a worthy winner!
