Plaintive Trance
" How sweet to the heart are the scenes of my childhood"
Samuel Woodworth 1785 - 1842
rapt in a plaintive trance, when close my eyes,
enchanting abode appears in my dream,
surrounded by a garden ~ mesmerized ~
all around the wildflower bushes gleam ~
damsel in pretty silky cloak, blushing ~
on swing, reveling in, beside a stream.
swinging, fluttering, twirling, and prancing ~
roses beaming, dahlias frolicking ~
charming butterflies kiss, bees hovering.
warmth of lively precious friends, nostalgia endearing ~
hushed village-path, starlit sky, moon shining ~
tall trees witnessed, gleeful laughter gushing.
those are the days, those are the nights, dazzling ~
in memory ~ never disappearing.
