It was the week before Xmas I’ve finally decorated my tree When I get taken by surprise by my naughty new kitty She’d escaped from the kitchen then crept past the lounge door and my pretty Christmas tree was lying wrecked on the floor! I see Bluebell is tangled with baubles and lights When I try to release her how my poor kitty fights! Lights and baubles are broken she tore them with her claws I must try and be careful to remove them from her paws It takes a few minutes to set poor Bluebell free now I must find some time to try and rescue my tree! I give Bluebell some food and she laps up some milk as I stroke her soft fur which feels just like pure silk Bluebell curls up in her basket and soon she gently sleeps I re arrange tree decorations I hope this time it’s for keeps! Jan: One of my grand daughters has a small kitten and from what I've heard you two could share stories. I will get this to her for her enjoyment. Thanks for sharing with all of us on the soup. oldbuck

Thanks for the nice comment, perhaps we are related. I loved this poem, so funny to read yet horrible to think of what the whole Christmas tree scene must have looked like. Thanks!

Ha-ha Jan … my daughter had to build a fence around her tree to keep her marauding dog at bay - by the way, on the news from Melbourne; someone decorating their tree found a snake in it - something different - Lindsay

I'm sure Bluebell looked very innocent sleeping in her basket. LOL Pets are used to seeing trees outdoors. I think the tinsel and ornaments lure them into lives of kitty crime. Nicely done, Jan! Best wishes in Constance's contest. Hugs, Carolyn

Hi Jan, what a beautiful poem, reminds me so much of our kitty who is not really a kitty he is an adult and he never gets the chance to even look at our Christmas tree, but I could imagine the mess if he did, how are you, well I hope, take care and a happy new year......Vera
