Notes About The Poem

"To be a flower is a profound responsibility.
It is to wait for the weight of the world to

descend and demand your nectar."

— Emily Dickinson

============

Petals, Wings, One Heart

The clover lay still, closed,
small, certain,
nothing to offer,
the color of her going dark—
a vitreous-Tyrian.

The bee, chromatic senses’ tasting on the tongue-tip
licking the runes of black-light-lace
circled once, twice—
warm wing-drift brushing kindred nearness
his thorax trembling, scent of sun-saturated-sweetness
nectarous-fragrant with desire.

He loved the clover
and she opened—
bright, fearless, certain—
the sound of yellow flooding her interior
surrendering her nectar into sunlight-passion

petals, wings, one heart
timelessly infused.

Dear Daniel! Love can bring anyone back to light from darkness, and the right touch can unfurl colors that are vibrant and uplifting. Your poem can be interpreted in so many ways, but I see it as someone who was cocooned in their darkness until he loved her clover. It carries a sensual, passionate touch as well. You are truly such a profound poet ~ your ability to use poetic techniques in such unique ways is beyond me. I’m left speechless and in awe. It was a pleasure reading this. Congratulations! Fave!

Dear Empress, I always loved how you can see the deeper meanings that I reach for. As you know sometimes these short poems can several weeks to birth and even then we are looking for all the puzzle pieces fitting together in the most meaningful way. Thank you for being one of my special friends who I admire. Blessings, Dear Empress, Daniel

Dearest Daniel, the title drew me in, my sweet friend. There's something so alluring about ' petals and wings. ' The way you describe the moments within, it's soooo sensual. ' Like this: ' He loved the clover and she opened— bright, fearless, certain. ' The ' one heart ' moment holds the meaning of two becoming one. I'm in complete awe, my dear sweet friend. Your thoughts are beautiful in every way. Congratulations on Poem of the Day. Welcome to Spring. : ) Hugs, Brandy

Hello David, thank you and like you, probably, I never know whether a poem will hit or not, though the great joy is writing and having friends read and comment and vis-versa. My longer darker poems which come out of my counselor world are cathartic to me and anyone who knows those worlds or perhaps want to understand, though only a few. I am always thankful for friends like you. Blessings, Daniel

Humans could learn a lot from relationships formed in nature. Being mutually beneficial has its reward in every species. There’s more than one kind of passion and your descriptive lines of flower and pollen seeker are seductively beguiling.

Dear Beryl, growing up on a farm brings so many images and blossoming creativity to the mind. My wife grew up in a city and very conservative. I was the bee and she the clover. Then again I love bees and she is my green thumb flower girl. Blessings, Daniel
