Notes About The Poem

Petals and Poetry written for my mum. My mum told me that on the day I was born I clinically died twice, before she even held me in her arms. The Grim Reaper has followed me, but has been unsuccessful in his attempts. Maybe I live in the glory of my mum, as I would never want her to mourn for her son.

Petals and Poetry

In a world full of unwelcome nightmares,
I recite dreams of poetry to the one who cares.

I'm pondering a perfect metaphor,
trying to portray my mum's devotion.
Thinking about what her heart adores,
releases a fountain of emotion.

I'm surrounded by perennial petals and poignant poetry,
yet unable to bloom words or blossoms
to justify her prestige and preciousness.
On days of darkness,
in the angst of a black and white world,
when life felt like a kaleidoscope of chaos,
you placed reflective rainbows in my soul,
reminding me that life is a painting and you are the artist.
Gifted me a box of crayons to create my own horizons,
so I could discover a dream in all colours -
living in a daydream of aesthetic artistry.

When constant commotion from crows
left me mute like a silent nightingale,
you showed me how to love in silence,
healing these wounded wings -
to ensure I would continue to soar.
For a boy in a fatherless existence,
life can be a wild game of survival,
so I feel for a child without a mother's love,
deprived from a treasure chest full of diamonds and gold.

Without you there would be no words or roses,
as you were the first verse in my poem -
the sweetest heavenly scent.
If only there was a field of forever flowers,
with prosperous promises of an Edenic eternity,
then I would always have you by my side.

Let all mothers be blessed whose son writes such awesome, lovingly descriptive, poetry to them and whom you owe your survival to through very hard times, as she was 'your treasure chest full of diamonds and gold'. I fave many many of your poems as i do this one and the one you wrote to your daughter, a son and father born and destined to become a magic poet because of a devoted much cherished mother. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Such a loving poetic tribute to your mom's love. And, in a nutshell, personifying what is wrong with this world, too few fathers and mothers raising their own children. Sounds like your mom had to be both. Fate sometimes very cruel. Great read. Thank you.

This is breathlessly tender and gentle and rests the soul in its lullaby of lovingkindness. it makes me smile and remember that only a mother could stir such senses, such gentleness, such rest in the assurance of a love that is lasting. Only God could have poured out such wonder into a heart and only love could have brought such a poem to life. You are a gifted poet and as always, I am enthralled by your words. Congratulations and much love and God bless you forever. Love, Gina

Dear Silent one, as always your words truly blew me away, the depth of this write and how evocative and touching it is truly touched my soul, as a mother i can only wish for such words, poignant and soulful, profound write that flows with excellent alliterations, assonance, descriptive wordplay, metaphors.I love every line especially the ending, how you described and expressed the challenges your mother endured and did overcome as a warrior! Impeccable! Thank you for writing. CONGRATULATIONs!

This is truly a very emotional write, which I can relate to a lot. I have too, twirled in the reaper's ambience and was on the verge of losing one time, but my mum remained as my strongest pillar. Your words and lines can make anyone feel the depth and evocative sentiments of a mother-child bond, so pure and eternal, blooming like the most beautiful flower and this poem is really heart-touching. A mother wishes to paint pastel horizons for their children but also to elevate their will power.

Hello S1, your mom is so lucky for her son having written such an emotional verse for her. I wonder if my son would ever write such a poetry for me. I shall show this to him and make him read. As always, poetry at its best that could bring out many emotions from the readers who could reflect their own experiences of the bond of love they share with mom...like how a flower blossoms under the graceful presence of soft sunlight...God bless...~ Ani

"Gifted me a box of crayons to create my own horizons, so I could discover a dream in all colours - living in a daydream of aesthetic artistry." Your mother is the central figure in your life, I rightly assume. Dear poet friend. I love everything about a mother ! The word Mother or 'Amma' in my language is the sweetest word in my vocabulary. Your wonderful tribute to your mother has choked my throat with emotions and welled my eyes with tears. It is a mother who initiates us into a new world where she feels her child will shine. Your mother was 'the first verse in your poem'. So heartfelt and lovely, Silent one.

A beautiful poem of your heartfelt thoughts of your mother, Silent One. I too faced an uphill battle from birth ... I spend the first 6 weeks after birth in an iron lung. I was born pre-mature, 6 weeks early and my lungs hadn't fully developed yet, and very tiny. I too, was blessed with an angle like mother. It's hard to put into words, but you've done a great job with this poem. A FAV for me. Thank you, my friend. Bill

I’m loving the beautiful way you’ve expressed your deep love for your mom, feeling the beauty, strength and grace your mother beholds..we all need a loving figure in our lives to thrive and live for..and despite your hardships in life, I can feel how your mother had such a huge impact in your life and that is a true blessing. This brought tears to my eyes thinking of my own mother and her own sacrifices for me and her family. Your way of weaving is always such a marvel to me! True brilliance!
