Notes About The Poem

Ordinary Man

Snow is falling and floods are flowing,
people dying and children keep crying,
but he's just an ordinary man,
sitting there watching TV.

Icebergs melting and penguins starving,
men in suits talking and big guns firing,
but he's just an ordinary man
playing on his smartphone.

Storms blowing and seas are raging,
children starving and refugees leaving,
but he's just an ordinary man
at home warm and free.

He seems confused,
Daffodils no longer bloom in Spring,
bumble bees have stopped buzzing,
butterflies have stopped floating,
confused birds have stopped flying and
factories have plumes of smoke burning,
but he's just an ordinary man
sitting in his garden all alone.

So who is he to fight?
He just follows the rules he is told.
Instead of trying to be something he is not.
Because he is just an ordinary man.

Simple musing

Every "ordinary" man, or woman can make a difference in the world. Some in large ways, some in small ways, but the power is within each of us to try to better this planet. I love this poem, and the message it has :) Well done!

It's beyond sad when people feel so dis-empowered. Whenever given the opportunity EMPOWER someone (teach the man to fish don't give them fish). Light & Love

Love it. Ordinary men can at times do extraordinary things,as history clearly reveals. And some of those are the legendary poets that we read and truly admire.. Magnificent verses my friend.

A powerful poem told in subtle moral tones Silent One. Complacency will be our demise. An elegant and eloquent plea to raise awareness to the crises (so many) around the world.. Beautifully expressed my friend.. Warmest wishes ~Susan

An existential gem, SO. Very subtle inferences of moral gravity's pull on our psyche. Extraordinary results occurs when we don't merely go w/the flow. Ordinary neglect is pen actionable. Great write! Love and much respect always.

This is a powerful poem, Silent One. I think many of us are too ordinary in this respect. I know I am. Probably only good thing I do for the environment is use my own bags at the store and not plastic! Great poem.

Quite a convicting poem, Silent, and an eloquent call to action. We ordinary citizens can do many things to help the needy right where we are at...and, though not yet mentioned, there is also the power of prayer, entreating God to intervene. Great message!

Testaments all to the COMPLACENCY of the ordinary man. People roll on agreeing, "Yes, you're right", what's required is a Revolution of the Ordinary Man.

The ordinary man(woman) becomes extraordinary in the voting booth and with expressions of caring in his/her life. He is like that "rock in a pool" spreading. So very sad if he thinks he is nothing. Your poetry is so profound!

You have written a manifesto of irresponsibility form the part of ordinary man who represents the vast majority of humanity! I have to congratulate you for getting up and worn about the upcoming calamities. If we do not wake up soon we will never wake up alive! SUPERB my friend, S.O.!
