Ode To the Blue Bird

I filled a bottle of tears today, While a rainbow danced across the page, Then in the final line that bled, Each tear I cried turned crimson red. I filled a bottle of tears today, For every heartache that come's my way, And every word spilled from my lips, Burned wildly through my fingertips. I filled a bottle of tears today, That chapped my cheeks then scorched my lips, While the minutes marched on, Tick ... Tick ... Tick. Then from the Desert deep in my soul, I emptied a bottle of tears that flowed, And all the while, The Blue Bird cried then moaned. She flew around first here then there, Chasing the night, while gasping for air, And at every attempt to release the pain, She shuttered examining each refrain. Then the Blue Bird sang with One last breath, And released all sickness in my head, And I alas could say goodbye, To the Blue Bird living in my mind.

Kelly, you write with such soul. It's not easy to write of purging the hurts of the past without sounding maudlin or angry. You use the metaphors of the bottle of tears and the bluebird to great effect. I'm glad you were able to put the pain behind you, then share your story. A very impressive first post here and a fave for me. Welcome to Poetry Soup, I hope you find it a haven for poetry friendships to develop ~ John
