(“Dante and the River of Lethe,” courtesy of pixels.com)

"All things fall into the storied past, and in a little while are shrouded in oblivion." Marcus Aurelius

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oblivion is a one-way journey into Hades, an Odyssey down the ancient river Lethe, a watery labyrinth where sojourners who imbibe on its water find their thirst unquenchable and remembrance no longer possible. Oblivion is a blanket, a cover that protects us from what our souls subconsciously determine they cannot handle. We shield ourselves with its mask, and cast away what we do not or cannot cope with. Oblivion is self-preservation, lost hope and apathy in their purest forms. We slip into its comforting embrace pretending as if the demons outside of it do not exist.
Powerful write. I think oblivion can be a half way state of not viewing the enemy so fearing them without establishing if you could indeed overcome them.
