Long and brown with moon pie eyes. Was the perfect birthday surprise. Thin and furry. He is always in a hurry. Broken tail has he. Wags it with glee if he likes thee. Fast as the wind. Licks your face if you are his friend. Chasing squirrels, his favorite thing. Up the tree, the squirrels do zing. Has a bed near the fireplace. His very own space. On the floor his toenails go clickety clack He barks at the postman! Yakety yack! He digs in mother’s garden. A bath he will need when he’s done. He’s the present I wished for. He’s all I wanted and more. He’s Fritz, my very my own puppy, I love him and now you understand why!

O sara, this is so very cute. He reminds me of my own dachshund that we came to possess when he was only one month old. I was never fond of dogs. But as soon as we owned this one, I began loving dogs more than I ever imagined. Your puppy looks so cute and sweet and your rhyme on him is sweeter. Congratulations on your well deserved first place win.

Congratulations, Dear Sara on the top win. What a brilliant and perfect nursery rhyme! It takes a different skill and imagination to write for children! You have got that so amazingly well! Your puppy must be a very special one!

I’m a lover of big dogs (not as any kind of substitute, you understand) but that photo sure is cute and it sounds as though Fritz is too. Enjoyable read, Sara

I was never a fan of dogs that served no purpose. I thought dogs should be for hunting. But my wife has a Golden Doodle now and I must admit, I have grown quite fond of him. Maybe it is old age.

NEVER EVER admit to not liking dogs… there’s weird people in this world… and some of them have ropes! ;-) I guess they’ll forgive you as you continue with your conversion. Just wait till you get the doe eyes… you’ll be forever lost.

It's a great story-poem, Sara. Kids'll love it... even if this old curmudgeon never met a hound he didn't want to shoot if they'd just suspend the laws for a minute or too. Guess I never saw what people like about a slobbering domesticated wolf. Oh, well. It's a dog's life. ~ Gershon

this was a hard write, for I don't like 'indoor' dogs, but kids love them. I'm not a fan of dog or cat hair in the house. EEGADS. I saw our neighbor's children playing with their dog, hence the inspiration. have a great evening & I appreciate your visit, Sara

thanks, kind Sotto, for your kind words about the flow of my children's poem--one I wrote in my head while out walking this morning...inspired by watching our neighbor's children play with their dog. I know this sounds strange, but I don't easily relate to small children...so I'm not good at nursery rhymes. I can't get into their heads which is why I taught high school and college and not elementary school. Thanks for your well wishes for the contest. Have a splendid evening,
