Permission was given by Andrea and Broken Wings to use their names in my poem

If in a contest you don’t place Wipe those tears from off your face If you’ve been here on soup a while You can recognise a certain poet’s style Read a VERY well penned sonnet Andrea Dietrich’s name could be on it Broken Wings writes poems that are very sad Her experiences in life have been truly bad If you read a poem with a humourous line Chances are it could be one of mine! It doesn’t take Miss Marple To join in the ‘its fixed’ debacle Having no names on poems will make no difference But putting your name on a poem is now an offence 7th January 2016

You made your point, Jan, and I am sure people understand clearly what your message is. As things are at present, sponsors CAN find out who the authors are, if they want to. As to style...some are unmistakable...recognizable from miles away, but there's nothing to do about that! A system by which contest entries are not made available to the readers before the result comes out could be worth thinking about. ~ Hugs // paul

I agree Paul the current no names system is easy to get round - names or no names I love the challenges the contests give us and if we are writing that is the most important thing:-) hugs jan xx

Jan, thanks for mentioning me, and of course, I have a very distinctive style that cannot be denied, almost everyone would know my writes. I have heard some say that professional contests require no names, hogwash, I have entered many, they not only require your name, but your address, phone, and must be presented in a very specific way. I am proud to put my name on my poetry, I think the whole debate is an endless circle that just goes on and on, no name, no problem, your poem is wonderful 7

Aww thanks Broken Wings I am just trying to make a point - names no names it really doesn't matter - the most important thing to me is my poems get read and being placed in a contest is a way to continue to get interest in your poem once it has shot off the recently posted poems page:-) hugs jan xx

You always make me chuckle Jan, and I thank you for that always. Regarding no names on poetry, in the words of Rett in that classic movie 'Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn' anymore ;) - too much to concern about such anymore ~~ hugs//James xx

I agree James, names no names it really doesn't matter - what is important is that the contests inspire us to be creative:-) hugs Jan xx

The rule is cool James but it still doesn't stop the sponsor knowing who wrote the poem:-) hugs jan xx

Hello Jan... well said Jan, and true. Poems from many poets are like a signature and easily recognized at times - Lindsay

Exactly Eve - names or no names it can be very easy to see or find out if you really want to :-) hugs jan xx

Go on girl go tell them, and how, love your style and your poem...Oh by the way tis a farce this no names...it is easy once an entry arrives, just go to new poems posted, or even type the title in advance search.. Personally i prefer no names, but i also respect those opinions that differ..

I agree its a total farce Harry. I prefer no names but as you say it is not difficult to find out who wrote what if you really want to. i love the challenge of the contests but not the friction they cause especially of late on the blogs:-( hugs jan xx

Hi Jan, i have to say that i gave up on contests all together. Contests, although meant to bring poets together can end up causing more friction. It has always been a bone of contention on the Soup. I do understand the point. This time round, i am only here to write poetry not to do contests. I want to have some fun this time. Always do your own thing Jan. You keep singing your poetry from the heart. I used to bother about this same thing, no more....Vladislav.

I agree with what you say Mike - I love the challenge of the contests but not the conflict they cause - the most important thing to me is for my words to be read:-) hugs jan xx

Hi Jan. You've written eloquently on a relatively recent trending Soup topic. I see your point in that most PM members write with distinctive style, not their lacking but rather something to be proud of. I for one know a few sponsors who ask for names not because of favoritism but for valid reasons. hugs

Jan, there are few poets whose writing I truly can distinguish or nearly similar but anyhow I really still prefer no names.. but seeing it an offense hmmmmmmmmp i think not right!!! I've had a contest where i forget to ask for names but I dared always to be objective and stick to what me and JAmes perceive is deserving to place regardless of the who wrote it Contests I believe is to enhance us who wants to learn, and we must be sport to receive the judgement of the sponsor~smiles!Olive Eloisax

I prefer no names Olive but am just trying to highlight the fact that is is still possible to know who wrote what by recognising a style:-) I LOVE the challenge of the contests they inspire me to write and as long as my poems get read that is the most important thing to me:-) hugs jan xx

Wonderful verse, You are right, a poets style is obvious most of the time, but there were a few contests I hosted and I placed you high and I didn't even know it was you! You have the talent of a thousand pens my dear!

I have no heart to judge my contest at the moment Cas all the negativity on the recent blogs has taken its toll on me:-( I try to vary my style not just write humour all the time so I can surprise people with what flows from my pen:-) hugs jan xx

Thanks LuLoo I wrote it in December when all the blogs were about for names/no names. I have always asked for no names but it is easy to recognise a certain style and that is the point I am trying to make:-) hugs Jan xx

thanks for the sonnet mention, Jan! I do love writing them, and there are other very clever sonneteers among us here. I understand the arguments on both sides of this issue. It is nice to read this side in your cute poem! (last line, I think you meant "on" a poem?)

I see both sides of the argument too and no names on a poem still is not going to stop the 'perceived' favouritism issues. Oops I did mean on - doh :-( hugs Jan xx

It isn't allowed no on contests Anne Lise I am just trying to get over to people that it is very easy to recognise a certain style - names or no names really doesn't make a difference!:-) hugs Jan xx

well if my poem doesn't win....I wont throw away my pen....what one may not like....to another could be a priceless write....it just depends on the reader....and if you are a believer....in what we call the written art....don't worry about contests, give them some more heart....awesome jan....;)

So true Eric it is one person's opinion and thankfully there are the 'screwed' type contests where our poems get a second chance ... the names no names really doesn't make a difference to the way the contest is judged:-) hugs jan xx

i rarely enter contests anymore, jan, which is a shame because i used to enjoy the challenge. the judging often seemed very strange to me so i decided it wasn't worth getting annoyed about. i agree with you that certain poets (including myself) have very identifiable styles. i'm always happy to recognize one of yours!
