No Contest

There are some of us, not contest inspired Who write of our lives and all that's transpired We write of our pain and we write of joy Our own themes and memes, are what we employ Our muses amuse, huff contests away They dance in our minds, and call us to play no rules and no prize, just sweet company when readers come by to share poetry So please don't feel bad if we don't obey We hear our own drum that makes our words sway we don't get as much, as all of you do But, please come on by, and have a look too Perhaps you will find, a nice tasty treat Not sponsor approved; but still it is sweet No contest for me, and how about you? I'll still come on by-though my views are few! Eileen Manassian HA HA HA HA HA HA! Tongue in cheek, but as my Pappy says, "I joke about serious things, and I say serious things in jokes."

This is good. Your Pappy is right and your humour carries the message. To quote my wife, 'life is not a race and everybody deserves a medal'. Keep thinking out of the box, please. Many wishes, Kai

I do both :) I write for myself, I write for the fun of a challenging contest (at least if I can understand what it is they WANT from me, hahaha), and even sometimes about me for a contest. No one should ever feel forced to do anything here. You are you, you are here to enjoy your and others poetry, and I enjoy yours :)

Thanks, Darren. Contest rarely inspire...I write what is in my heart and what my muse whispers in my ear. :) To each his/her own. :) Thanks for the visit.

I tend to do a combination of both. Each has its own value. I am proud of some of my pieces that have resulted from contest themes. These themes can be oil for my poetic machinery so I appreciate them. There is freedom and beauty when writing within the constraints of rules and contests. It forces the mind to push upward.

I sympathize and identify very closely with your message and I do not participate in contests on Poetry Soup. I write and post the things I choose to address and do not feel driven by the necessity to produce a huge output in a short time -- although I do feel somewhat guilty when I waste a lot of time without accomplishing anything! Thank you for this little "statement"...

I wish I had more time to write, but having said that, there are periods when I write on a daily basis, usually short poems to quickly capture an idea that comes to mind before it evaporates. I take part in some contests, but only those that inspire me; I use them as a springboard for my muse. Time permitting, I enjoy reading many poems from fellow soupers. Hugs // paul

Hi Eileen, excellent, enjoyable read, really you don't need contests or being sponsored, the whole art of poetry is writing and saying what is on your mind and saying what you want to say and besides you don't need someone else to say wether your poetry is good enough, YOUR POETRY IS BRILLIANT no mater what so take care and god bless.......Vera

Eileen, it's all good and I enjoyed this read. When I started with poetry in 2000, I was writing about my life and after a few years, I honestly could not think of more to say. That is why I love the challenges, and many times I can incorporate my own life experiences and opinions in to them. Anyway, keep up your own style and stay proud of it. You are doing great on the internet with your lovely poetry.

Sometimes, I am just grateful the topic inspires me, as I often have difficulty finding inspiration. Sometimes, I write because I have something I want to share and sometimes i just write:) I read poems a lot by titles and subjects.

Your poem made me smile Eileen. I write many many poems just for fun to make people laugh and forget about their troubles. I love contests as a learning experience win or lose I just want to have fun! :-) hugs jan xx

Well said, I tend to do both write for the sake of writing and write for contests, either way I'm a poet that very seldom writes about my life, rather the emotions taken from my life's experience as a foundation for the poetry I create

I've joined contests in the past. They are great as a learning experience. :) I've done some tough work for tough sponsors and done well, but I just can't seem to get inspired lately. I basically write about things that have touched my life in some way...and then I embellish it. :) Thanks for the visit. Hugs
