Sweet music is my true love's native tongue, no other language so reveals her soul- in rhythms, notes, and rests, her thoughts made whole; for moments brief, her hearer's hearts made young. Sweet music is my true love's native tongue, transporting souls to heaven's shores when she is singing, bringing them reluctantly back down to earth when her last note is sung. As words are formed of letters - simple things, these words build books; and books, vast libraries. Likewise, my joy is built of melodies composed of pure and perfect notes she sings. No language could so move me to rejoice more than the music of my true love’s voice. Written 2/24/1999 for my true love on her birthday

What a lovely poem John. It hits all the right notes. :) ..and what a gift your wife must have. Beautiful. It's a perfect sonnet that is - as Susan has already said - 'laden with musicality'. Great work. Cheers - Gary

Susan, your words wash over me like a gentle spring rain. Thank you so very much for your kindness and affirmation; this is one of my favorite poems. It was written for my bride for her 40th birthday and her voice is even more beautiful and precious to me having been through so much together. Smiles, John

Andrea, I'm very slow to respond here, but thank you for the generous comment. I submitted this in the contest two years ago, so I won't be submitting it again. Still, I'm grateful for your affirmation. Hugs, John

John, what a lovely Sonnet. You seem to do so well with the iambic pentameter and rhymes. Sonnets are my favorite, and I see you have written a few others too which are also beautifully written. Excellent work! 7 Sandra
