My Muse Is

My muse is a fawn
standing with her mother as I drive
down the road beside her grove
she looks up but does not run
neither does she approach me
I stop and gaze at her delicate beauty
respecting her need for space and safety

My muse is a ladybug
I stop to observe her motions
she may or may not land on my hand
she senses me but does not fly away
until it is time to find more to eat
or perhaps return to hibernation

My muse is a hummingbird
the colors of artistry
the boldness of courage
the movements of freedom
the perseverance of hope
my heart is warmed by her visits
but she never stays long

My muse is an angel sending words. politcal ideals, romantic words. Controversy that spins a curve. The plain old truth when it has the nerve

This is so inspiring as always, John, the hummingbird stanza stands out to me, for I feel that is my muse, bold and quick, and brief, I hope the new year is treating you well, hope you and your family are ok in all that California rain~

Do you like them all equally or do you have a favorite John. They must vie for your affection! My Muse is fickle - wants to take all the credit, I let things be. All things being said, you write brilliantly my friend, and muse or no muse your poems rock! Be well, have fun in 2023 and keep writing your precious poetry which I look forward to reading. HUGS AND BLESSINGS, Jennifer.

A lovely poem. What is my muse? I have to get to a quiet spot and think about it. Your writing has motivated me. It's so pretty. I taught my children that a humming bird is the only bird that can fly backwards and it's eggs are the size of Tic Tacs I'm glad to have come across your poem. I enjoyed it.

Truly lovely in every aspect dear friend. It reminds me of the Psalm - "like a deer in winter" as you are always seeking inspiration from everything around you and finding your muse in everyone around you R&R Bro! Blessed is your muse for she births wonderful words, metaphors and images in you! Best wishes for the contest! Sending you blessings of joyful peace for 2023

John, I am the only poet who is muse_ Less. OMG. A muse to me is a god from Greece, there were nine. I write because I.choose to. No spirit stops me or starts me. Soup this yo-yo on what a muse is. If it’s inspiration? Then, life itself is a muse… my pen, my choice write. My cat will not! Stubborn thang. Your poem is outstanding and a winner. Museless in Wine country. Pangie
