Sometimes, no, often I think I will say: "Stop, I don't want this anymore." But in that very moment your hair ignites the sun; your smile sparkles.... How do I tell you: "Love alone is not enough, love can kill.... if it smothers, if nothing can rekindle it." And even though your eyes - radiating -, and your wavy hair make me melt inside, for some reason it never reaches my icy core. *** May 9, 2017 Copyright © Darren White

A possessive love can smother you, and, even though you may feel its powerful attraction, it doesn't let the heart breathe freely, and will not be able to reach your core; but the 'icy core' to me means you may have closed yourself up, perhaps for protection or after too much hurt . . . sorry my friend for this rambling, but one thing is sure, your poems never leave me cold:) Amitiés

what a piece, really lovely. My understanding of this poem is that you are in denial. Your heart is warm to love, but what you want is to be icy cold. whatever the message love this piece. Thanks for sharing

Weather by intention or not, you words warm mine soul, I've seen a heart of glass, frozen and cold. And let me tell you my friend is isnt yours. If you are talking about the Empathy-light thing, I relate. That can be common for people like us. I thought I was a moster because of it.. Again just know that you arent alone.

Hello Niall :) Thank you. What I told Lenna, I tell you now too. There is no wrong interpretation. I like it if a poem is a little bit open to read more in it than one meaning.

Hi Darren :) Love and lust are not one in the same, although we can easily confuse them at times. Lust can warm us, a temporary fix, but never truly builds a fire deep in our soul. (I hope I didn't wrongly interpret the icy core)

I always try to write in such a way that it is open for interpretation, so don't worry Lenna, there is no such thing as a wrong interpretation :) And yes, indeed, love and lust are absolutely not the same, I agree with you. Only love builds deep in our soul.
