Felisha Cat
You named me Charlie when you took me in-
a rescue from that inner-city fire.
Oh, how forever happy I have been
to have a home with all I could desire!
I loved our cuddle time- good food to eat;
and in or out, so much I could explore!
But, from the start, I took a firm backseat
to Miss Felisha Cat who came before.
Behind her, I would wait in line for food-
my head bowed low to show she was the boss.
Upon her 'queenship,' I could not intrude-
or else she'd turn on me- become quite cross.
Some days, as I walked down the center hall,
there she'd appear beside me all at once!
For no good reason, her big paw she'd haul
and bop my head as if I were a dunce.
I thank you for the fine care I received-
and though Felisha was a feisty one,
after she died- from our back deck I grieved;
eyes on her stone that glistened in the sun.
In her own way, she really loved me too;
but as a cat- proved hierarchy true.

Note:
Charlie passed at age 20, having lived 7 years
longer than Felisha did. He did miss her for
a long time. We miss them both.
