My Favourite Song

Only Cats Have Nine Lives Her child arrived in a secret way Hiding him nine months a heavy chore No daddy just some soldier home from war Poor little girl, woke up sad every day She found a cat in the cradle with a silver spoon and a ladle Her baby drowned in the tub sometimes love can be fatal Heavy sighs under the moon Passion made a girl a mommy too soon baby born she didn't know what to do Little boy blue he cried a sad tune No one seen the sad beneath her pretend Her secret kept from family and friend She saw no ending to sadness and pain wanting to be a carefree girl again She found a cat in the cradle with a silver spoon and a ladle Her baby drowned in the tub sometimes love can be fatal The baby cried all day and every night Even soft blankets can be wrapped too tight She placed him in a bath filled with her tears Leaving him there she turned off the light From Vietnam her soldier boy came home The first thing he did was reach for the phone There was no answer she'd been taken away That really was a most peculiar day He found a cat in the cradle With a silver spoon and a ladle Their baby drowned in the tub Sometimes love can be fatal He would have been two just the other day But life was tragically taken away He should have been protected from lifes harms just a happy child in his mother's arms Lullaby nightmare a young mommy so blue Soldier cries for the child he never knew His baby arrived in a secret way Sadly there was nothing that he could do Credit goes to Harry Chapin's song "Cat's in the Cradle" and my friend Freddie Robinson Jr. who joined me in this endeavour.

We advise all mothers going home from Post Natal to be self aware of low mood and visit their GP if it continues. Just like severe morning sickness seems strange when a pregnancy is starting, so is the thought that one can suffer the opposite of "the joys of motherhood." Brilliant reflections here from you both Richard.

Good Morning Richard. First I have always loved the song that you speak of and reference for it truly has meaning beyond words in life and for a father and son as well. I can still hear it on the radio at times depending upon the station. Your entry before us gives honor and a new meaning to the song. Well done. If this is for the contest allow me to say Good Luck and Best Wishes.

There are many sad stories and women who silently suffer.

Hi Richard : A sad but compelling prose on the the loss of a new baby. This should be a sign that we should never take our children for granted.

It's hard to imagine but sadly it is a very real sorrow. Thankfully most people won't harm their child.

This is so sad. When someone is dealing with their own illness they can't cope in caring for a child and both pay the price. A great and moving collaboration!7 ; )

Rick and Freddie you did an outstanding job .. the original lyrics are so sad and unfortunately many kids don't have a close relationship with their father as they are either so busy and making a living and not having quality time with their kids or absent from their lives. Your take on the song is absolutely heartbreaking:-( hugs Jan xx

You are so right there Richard I was fortunate and didn't suffer from the baby blues but I've read of women having such a terrible time that some end their lives:-( hugs Jan xx
