Mister Nuts
Mr. Nuts
Mr. Nuts made an impression one day
As he scampered to the feeders to play.
Mr. Nuts stood at attention and looked,
Watched me while I read my book.
Confident, tame he could afford to be,
For I was no danger to him or me.
I picked a crust of this morning’s bread,
Held it in my fingers to his head.
Never but what I thought he’d run away,
Tho he wanted that bread determined to stay.
He pinched my fingers between his own,
As if I were the nut he intended to own.
He nibbled the bread, I had a happy tear,
Felt like St. Francis, never did fear
To make friends with Mr. Nuts.
