Means of Relief
We walk in measured paces,
pursuing our wants and our needs.
And with smiles stamped on false faces,
we follow fortune where it leads.
Ambition fuels constant stress
'cause only success will suffice.
And affection is worth far less,
when sex is a matter of price.
If hell is nothing but a lie,
there's no need for absolution.
But seeking revenge when we die,
faith promises retribution.
Religion defends against wrongs,
allowing the maligned to cope.
And using rituals and psalms,
it imbues wretched souls with hope.
Faith fosters exasperation,
and yet, we defend blind belief.
For despite tears of frustration,
it's our only means of relief.
