This is one of my chilhood memories that I have never forgot. I was 9 or 10 years old and I had got in trouble in school for chewing gum. After my mother had learned what the principle had done to me, boy, did she ever rip into him (mean Mr.Preecher). She taught him a good lesson as well...lol  Back in the day we had to start each morning off with the entire classroom saying the Pledge Allegiance. Now-a-days they are not allowed to say it anymore because of religeos reasons. When I think back to that day in school, I guess I must have looked pretty silly standing there with a piece of gum stuck to my nose. Well, who would have ever thought that one day I would be writing a poem about it..lol

Off be-ith me ~ was running ~ bit late School doors re-open ~ quarter to eight Twas late for my class ~ a niche in lost time A detour ~ for a gum pack ~ that cost but a dime Pledge of allegiance ~ had started already So I stood at the door ~ dropping gum wrapper ~ confetti When the pledge was over ~ I had got in deep trouble As it be-ith told ~ I've blown out a bubble To the principles office ~ I was sent ~by my teacher To the head of the school ~ mean Mr. Preecher He taught me a lesson ~ forget ~ I will not For what he had done ~ I've just never forgot When he heard of my gum chew ~ he punished me good As students passed me by ~ in the hall where I stood They laughed at me silly ~ funny ~ I suppose When they saw I had gum ~ that be stuck ~ to my nose Remember Poetry Contest Sponsored by Shadow Hamilton 9/1/2018

Yes some of these Preechers (sic) need to practice what they preach. Love this poem, would have loved to have been in that classroom, I wouldn't have laughed at you. :) x I often had to stand outside the classroom door, I was too outspoken .... funny that.

A delightful write Charlie that I enjoyed. Today Mr Preecher would be in deep and serious trouble for cruel & unusual punishment to a student - ha! Glad you enjoyed the Haunted House write. PS: i've had many wonderful comments re the poem you wrote for Vera. I ran a copy on nice parchment paper & included it in a Book of Memories that the funeral home provided - it will be viewed by future generations in my family - Bob
