Make-Up

You cannot have that face. It doesn't belong to you. Try some other image, but not those star eyes of blue. Red is fine for lips, but not those squiggly lines at edge. Original face required, when you take the circus clown pledge.

Oh, this was so funny and so true. Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?

Thank you. Makeup is an artistic pursuit.

A very entertaining read dear Hilda. So enjoyed it. I’m an original face as I never wear makeup ( rubbish at putting it on ) and probably look quite ghostly :) I love the imagery in your lines and the last line made me smile. Thank you for sharing: )) : )) - big clown smiles ! X

Not what I was expecting. I like being surprised. My favourite clown was Red Skeleton’s “Freddy The Freeloader.”

Oh, yes. Red Skelton was funny. Some of his skits would be prohibited by today's standards, but I say. Buldergash. Thanks for commenting.

Hilda, your composition is both enlightening and aesthetically pleasing. Your poem evoked a delightful response within me, particularly with its concluding verse and the enchanting description of 'those azure starry eyes'.

My first read of this is that each clown face should be one's own original. Now for application...that is hard for today's world of people who don't want to think of themselves as clowns since they are looking to beautify themselves and hide any defects. So, we can certainly laugh at those attempts. It is, however, one heck of a large money-making industry with a lot of advertising. People who don't want to be clowns certainly sometimes are. It is kind of scary to see.

Ahh yes, clowns faces are the equivalent of copyrighted aren't they?! Whilst everyone else becomes clones as opposed to clowns (perhaps more via the cosmetic surgery than the make up). Interesting poem Hilda, enjoyed :)

Just a clown rule. Aren't all rules from clowns?

Your poem made me smile, Hilda. Especially at the final line, and 'those star eyes of blue.'

Thank you for reading this poem. I kind of miss circuses. Now I have nowhere to run away to.

I love make up, and I actually did conduct some international masterclasses here too to teach young women on a professional level on how to groom themselves without overdoing it, subtle make up is necessary as sometimes i too wonder what one was thinking when they come out looking like what youv described. Witty one. Made me smile hah! Your diverse pen always knows how to leave us readers in awe! Pleasure reading your work always. Sending you light always

witty and clever, Hilda. I can see both literal and symbolic meaning to your words. If so, that's brilliant. Either way, your poem was a joy to read. Have a great evening, Sara

Personally, I always preferred women with subtle and less exaggerated make-up. Intelligent poem.
