Love Is Original Sight Of All Sight

My eyes' amnesia if you'd never be —
The crying like seagulls from throat unclenched,
And if those same waves go on without us
When washing away the glass from my seams,
My shaking water with us in between —
A heart moved through harpoon's death darkest drench,
Where needing viscerals bathed in light pant,
The ripping of eyes' sails beyond this sea

Love is original sight of all sight
Where lids opening shore open to hue,
Alone we were though with the going tide.
The sea melted for seagulls' holding to
As it caught contact our glistening eyes —
Long before unconscious heart ever knew.

' As it caught contact our glistening eyes — Long before unconscious heart ever knew. ' There's something so dreamy about this thought. Like two becoming one, in such a luminous way. Congratulations Paige, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. : ) Hugs, Brandy

The seagull metaphor…

Dear Paige, It is like love arriving before the body even knows what to call it, waves, glass, seagulls, all pulling at the seams. I like how the sonnet keeps circling the idea that sight isn’t just vision but recognition, almost pre-conscious. Excellent in all ways. Blessings, Daniel

Your Petrarchan sonnet is very well written. I admire the metaphors involving seagulls, waves, harpoons, and sails. A magnificent poem.

This is exquisite ! A masterpiece, Paige. I’m faving. First two lines are exotic. I’m delighted that the throat is unclenched > this depicts a massive victory > it doesn’t matter if the sound is like crying seagulls. Neither does it matter if the waves go unrequited. If it washes away the glass, that is pure Love. The D alliteration before visceral is powerful : an excellent juxtaposition in the two lines here - the final line in first stanza is a masterful articulation of infinity- excellent! I’m in resonance with the more gentle second stanza, except the final line : since my perception is that the heart comes first before eyes, viscerality, etc. This is a true Romantic Italian Sonnet, PH. I hope the POTD peeps with their algorithm ai see this one. Rainbows to the shattered glass into the Ocean. Xxx
